Nine teams of teenagers may qualify to compete in the state competition to be named the 2010 RI State LifeSmarts Champion and claim the Consumer Cup. The RI state competition utilizes a "double elimination" format, meaning that a team can lose an early match, but still come back to win the competition, providing that they do not lose another match. See the grid to further understand the state competition match format.
In order to qualify for invitation to the state competition, a team (four players, plus one alternate) must have an adult Coach and a have completed the online portion of the competition (answering 60 questions) by the online cutoff date to be announced soon.
Once the online cutoff date has expired, the Rhode Island Jump$tart Coalition will invite 9 teams (no more than two from any high school or teen program) to the state competition. Once all invited team members and the school or teen organization has submitted the release forms to the National Consumers League (NCL) as directed, the competition teams will be set.
Teams are responsible for their own transportation to and from the state competition. Morning snacks and lunch will be provided at the competition.
