North Smithfield, RI – June 12, 2010 – The Rhode Island Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, Soccer Rhode Island, and Wide World of Indoor Sports have teamed up to promote Visa's Financial Soccer, www.financialsoccer.com, an educational video game that combines the world's most popular sport with a high-quality financial literacy curriculum to create an innovative approach for helping children and adults learn about personal finance.
Rhode Island high school soccer players have been invited to participate in a friendly-competition event, play the video game and determine the “Financial Soccer Rhode Island Cup” champion as follows:

U.S. National Soccer Team captain, Landon Donovan collaborated on the creation of the game and is helping with promotions. Two high school players at the event, to be chosen at random will receive pictures signed by Donovan.
Jim Hedemark, executive director of the RI Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy states, “With World Cup action just around the corner, we hope that kids and families throughout Rhode Island will play Financial Soccer and learn how to achieve financial GOALS, PASS up bad offers, avoid late-payment PENALTIES, understand credit SCORING, and make great SAVES.”
