Marcia has served as the State President of the RIFTHP since being elected to this position in 1992. The Federation is a diverse organization, representing more than 12,000 members who work as teachers, nurses and other health professionals, school related personnel, higher education faculty and staff, and state and municipal employees.
Prior to her current position, she served as President of the Providence Teachers Union, local 958, AFT, AFL-CIO from 1973 to 1992 and taught in Providence Public Schools from 1966 to 1992 in elementary grades.
Marcia serves on various boards and commissions including, The American Federation of Teachers Executive Council as Vice-President, American Federation of Teachers Program and Policy Council, and the Holmes Partnership Executive Board (National Higher Education/School Partnerships). She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Rhode Island and a Master of Arts from the University of Connecticut. She resides in Providence, Rhode Island.
